All the highest heights...

We decided to dedicate most of this day to the Mala Strana/ Hrad side of the river. We started by walking to the Petrin Tower, which we could view from our apartment. This was actually more of a hike than we had anticipated, and we then had to climb the Tower itself, so we were slightly tired out by the time we got to the top! We once again got a great view over Prague, from a different angle this time, and we could actually see our apartment from there. The air was slightly hazy in the morning, so our view wasn't quite as good as it could be and perhaps this is a better place to go in the afternoon.

After our hike up, we sat in the cafe at the base of the tower and had a drink and sweet pastry. Then we wandered through some of the park, which is quite charming, until we reached the funicular, which we took down to Mala Strana.
Mala Strana is a nice area, and we just walked along the streets, down to the river and back until a late lunch, which we had at Bohemia Bagel. After that it was down through a charming little garden and onto Kampa Island. Kampa Island is quite touristy, but nicely set right on the river.

After Kampa Island it was onto St Nicolas Church, on the Mala Strana side. This church has a fairly glitzy interior, and you can climb the bell tower to, you guessed it, get a view over Prague! This is about when my housemate started complaining that I was hauling her to the top of every height in Prague, but I just loved the views so much!
Finally, to complete our day of walking in Prague, we visited the Hrad. We arrived there fairly late in the afternoon and saw a changing of the guard, which was interesting, but nothing to really go out of your way for. I think it happens every hour on the hour. We wandered into the Hrad and decided not to buy any tickets but just have a look around the outside. The castle is definitely worth a visit and is fairly large, with a number of buildings within. One very touristy bit is the Golden Lane, which I believe you usually have to pay for, but we just walked in. Other pictures I have seen show hordes of people on this small lane and we were really lucky to have hardly anyone else there. So I guess I would advise visiting the Hrad late in the day, as it will be both free and less crowded! We also had a walk around the top of the Hrad gardens, where you get a good view down on all the embassies that are located in the Mala Strana area. This ended our second full day in Prague
