Cowboys and Conspiracies

From Texas Tennesse Louisiana (TTL Road Trip) USA 2009 in Dallas, United States on May 21 '09

Gary and Jill has visited no places in Dallas

Next 2 days in Fort Worth and Dallas saw us track down the best burgers in the USA at a place called Kincaids Grocery then head into Fort Worth downtown for a canny night out.

We found a bar called The Flying Saucer that had over 300 beers on offer. Gary was filmed by a local TV crew brandishing his 'British CAMRA card' which seemed to amaze the locals. Jill wondered why Gary wanted his photo taken until she saw the beer waitresses in the background - tut.

Next day took us on the train to Dallas (The Big D).

Walking from the station 200 yards along the road we rounded a corner and a sight that's been seen so many times in film, TV and photographs met us - Dealey Plaza the place where JFK was assassinated. Honestly, it was an amazing sight, so much so that the hairs on Garys neck (not head) stood on end!

After photo ops standing on the X painted on the road to mark the fatal shot and on the grassy knoll we took a ride out into the suburbs to track down Highland Park Pharmacy. This is another old school diner that hasn't changed much since 1912. Lime ice cream floats and BBQ beef sandwiches all round.

Back in Fort Worth it cowboy night, a rodeo, and a visit to the worlds largest "Honky Tonk" bar named Billy Bobs 2 acres of bars, line dancing, bull riding, pool tables and live  music all under 1 roof.

Now on Saturday morning we're packed up and ready to fly off to Nashville to pick up the car for the start of the road trip.
