Having lived there for four years, I do agree that it's probably one of the world's greatest cities. SO livable. There are great places to eat, great places to go for drink, lots of cafes to hang out at. Take the Sea Bus across to North Vancouver and you can do a couple hikes. There are also three local ski hills -- Seymour, Grouse, and Cypress -- in addition to, of course, Whistler and Blackcomb mountains which are a 3 hour drive out from Vancouver. Great places to shop, as well, in addition to Robson street: West 10th and West 4th are both funky. However, the longer I was there the more I came to realize that this city is a great place to drink, eat, party, hang out on the beach, tan, and shop, but you need money and/or a car to do the outdoorsy stuff. It's a city of young professionals and you can feel it in the streets everyday.
