Well we were pre-warned that today was going to be a long driving day, so not much to report in terms of sites to see (other than freeways). Our first driving segment had us stopping at the ferry terminal to cross the water to Sweden. The coach drove onto the ferry then we all had to go up on deck. The trip was very short - just 20 minutes, but enough time to have a coffee, exchange some currency, and take a photo of an enchanting looking castle on the departure dock side.
After another two hours of driving (which I constructively used to write two days of travel blog!), we stopped at a road-side meal stop. Here it was hamburgers and hot soup and salad for us. It was a very busy place with many coaches pulling in and out all the time. Next segment after this was an hour and a half and I slept most of the way with hot food in my belly. Another pit stop and we were off again for our final 90min drive to Stockholm. By the time we arrived everyone was keen to just get off the bus.
I'll have another one of those teeny schnapps drinks please!

After a short break we boarded the bus again for the optional dinner excursion. On the way to the restaurant we got the chance to sample two different types of schnapps, one Swedish, one Danish. Those of us who don't drink too often felt the effects of this nearly 50% proof elixer, and were soon laughing and enjoying ourselves somewhat more. We also got the chance to spot the Stockholm equivalent to the Berlin Bears - The Stockholm Cows.
The restaurant had a lovely location, set beside a lake. The temperature was dropping quickly and I was happy to get inside the warm building. The main meal was paoched salmon which was absolutely fantastic, accompanied by more wine which made the evening even merrier. We had great conversation with members of our travelling group at our table who were from Canada.

On the way home, we were taken on a long route through the city to see the illuminations of Stockholm. This was accompanied by the sounds of the BeeGees on the sound system and much happy singing along by all. What a great end to a long travelling day.
