Orlando MCO Airport Overview
Orlando International Airport MCO is one of the world's busiest airports and gateway to Disney World, Universal Studios, Epcot Center, Kennedy Space Center, as well as to numerous convention-ready hotels. In 2011 it celebrated its 3th anniversary - during which time it doubled its dimensions and gates, and increased its passenger count by nearly 600 percent.
The Airport is located 9 miles southeast of dowtown Orlando, in Orange County, central Florida, at the junction of SR 436 (Semoran Blvd.) and SR 528 (Bee Line/Beach Line Expressway), and is accessibel by Interstate Hwy 4.
With four long runways and an estimated 34.7 million passengers a year, Orlando International Airport is hub to AirTran Airways and is served by countless domestic and international, regular & low-cost airlines offering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe.
The on-Airport 443-room Hyatt Regency Hotel (tel. 407-825-1234), winner of the Gold Key Award since 2005 by 'Meeting & Conventions' magazine, is located on top the Main Terminal and offers covention & meeting rooms, an AAA-rated restuarant and 446 rooms.
The passenger terminal complex at Orlando International Airport consists of a three-level main passenger terminal landside, connected to four airside satellites, served by an elevated AGT train shuttle. Airline locations on Level 3 are divided into an A & B sides (also referred to as Terminals A & B), each with access to two airside satellites at the north & south end of it (Airsides 1 & 3 are part of Terminal A, and Airsides 2 & 4 are part of Terminal B). Airside 1 has Wings 4, 5 & 6; Airside 2 has Wings 7and 9; Airside 3 has Wings 1, 2 & 3; and Airside 4 has Wings 10, 11 & 12 - each wing being surrounded by airline gates. Making your journey through the airport less stressful:
Check-in for departing flights is on the Departures Level (Level 3) of the Main Terminal. Check your ticket and the Departures/ Arrivals Board whether you need to be on the A-side or B-side of the terminal. Domestic travelers can check in with the skycaps. You can also check in at one of the self-service kiosks inside the terminal. Once you have checked in and have your boarding pass, follow the overhead signage towards the gate from which your flight is departing. Check flight information displays for gate and departure time. Just before you board the AGT Train to the gate area you will pass through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checkpoint. Check the overhead signage to make sure you take the right train. Its doors will automatically open when the inbound passengers have exited the train. You arrive in the hub of the Airside Terminal with facilities including bathrooms, telephones, restaurants and shops; signs will guide you to the proper wing and gate of your departure.
Parking options at Orlando International include a cell phone lot, two garages and some parking lots. (For detailed parking information, click on 'Airport Parking'.)
